A TALE OF JOY AND TRAGEDY THE GUARDIAN

Dawn Presteena Joseph Nellickal

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Nicholas Sparks is one of the world’s most beloved storytellers. All of his books have been New York Times bestsellers, with over 105 million copies sold worldwide, in more than 50 languages, including over 75 million copies in the United States alone. Sparks wrote one of his best-known stories The Notebook, over a period of six months at age 28. It was published in 1996 and he followed with the novels Message in A Bottle , A Walk to Remember ,The Rescue,A Bend In The Road, Nights in Rodanthe, The Guardian and the list goes on. Many of his books like The Notebook has already been adapted into movies.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

THE GUARDIAN published on 2003 by Nicholas Sparks is brilliantly written. The story takes you through the three-angle love predicament or not so,while the protagonist struggles to choose one of the two – a friend or a stranger, both supposedly head over heels for her. The title of the book is named after the pet dog, so the book is recommended for every pet lover with a heart. Julie got widowed at a young age and was left with two unexpected gifts before her late husband die, a Great Dane puppy named singer and a promise that he would always watch over her. Now,after some years still living in the small town of Swansboro, a 29 year old Julie is emotionally ready to make herself committed in a relationship with someone again. But who? Should it be Richard Franklin, a handsome and sophisticated man who treats her like a queen or Mike Harris, a down to earth, nice guy who was her husband's best friend . Choosing one of them would bring happiness to her life once again but she gets trapped in a web of deception and jealousy.

MY OPINION:

What I liked about the book is how the author manages to keep the reader craving to find out what happens next, through his amazing narrative skills. Sparks always has a way of capturing the minds of young adults with his way of writing and The Guardian is certainly not an exception. The only disappointment would be that the storyline gets quite predictable but I would rate The Guardian by Nicholas Sparks, an 8/10 .
